Welcome

Hugo is originally from St-Anne-De-Portneuf, a small village located in Northern Quebec (Canada). He was introduced to the world of weightlifting at the age of five, when his father gave him 2.5 lb weights to help him develop his physique. Considered one of the strongest men in the world, Hugo served as a police officer for the City of Gatineau (near Ottawa, the capital of Canada) for 13 years. The city eventually named Hugo Gatineau’s Grand Ambassador for 2006 to honour the international recognition he has brought the city. Since 2009, he has owned the XPN supplement line (xtreme performance nutrition), a venture that has since catapulted him into his second passion: the world of business. He has been married to Nadine Tremblay for many years, and his son, Tyler, was born April 15, 2005. Family is an important source of motivation for him.

In addition to ranking as a finalist in the "World's Strongest Man" competition six years in a row between 1998 and 2003, Hugo has also won the following prizes:

  • Strongest man in Canada from 1999 to 2004
  • Strongest man in North America 2000-2001
  • World Muscle Power 1999-2000 (Scotland)
  • World Muscle Power 2002-2003-2004 (Canada)
  • World Strongman Championship (IFSA) Super Series 2002
  • As well as many other major titles throughout the world.

Hugo also holds many Canadian powerlifting records including Heavyweight Bench Press and Squat achievements. He continues to work out five to six times per week, in the gym as well as outdoors, training for upcoming events. Since 1998, he has participated in many competitions all over the world. In each one, he has always ranked as one of the best in his category, thanks to his determination, incredible strength, and combative spirit. For these reasons, he is constantly being asked to participate in strength demonstration events.

Hugo is also actively involved in the promotion of his sport as an organizer, promoter, and producer. He organizes The Canadian Strongman Championship at Expo-Québec, which he produces for television, as well as the North American Championship at the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival. This involvement in competition development affords him even greater visibility, and he has since become a veritable spokesman for the sport in Canada.

Known for his sense of humour and his qualities as an orator, he has also made a name for himself as a public speaker. Most notably, he promotes the benefits of working out, surpassing oneself, and the importance of staying away from drugs. He firmly believes that dreams bring meaning to life. Hugo once dreamed of becoming the world’s strongest man; today he dreams of accomplishing the new challenges he is always setting up for himself.
